| Popis | In the wake of forty years since Hegemony & Socialist Strategy and twenty since On Populist Reason, the digital revolution has dramatically reshaped political mobilization and discourse. This abstract explores how cyberspace serves as both battleground and facilitator for populist narratives and emancipatory strategies in contemporary politics. As digital media platforms increasingly mediate political interactions, they offer novel arenas where the legacies of post-Marxist and post-structuralist thought meet the challenges of a hyper-connected, often fragmented, public sphere. The rapid evolution of online communication has amplified the voices of both progressive and reactionary forces. On one hand, digital tools empower grassroots mobilizations, enabling left-wing populist movements to contest entrenched power structures and institutionalized hegemony. On the other hand, the same networks often facilitate the mainstreaming of authoritarian nationalism and the spread of reactionary ideologies. These dualities prompt critical questions: How do digital platforms transform the dynamics of political representation and dissent? What are the limitations of traditional populist strategies in a networked age? And how can emancipatory politics leverage digital innovation to counteract the pervasive influence of right-wing hegemonic strategies? Drawing on empirical data and theoretical insights from the Central European Digital Media Observatory, this presentation interrogates the role of cyberspace in redefining political subjectivities and strategies. By examining both the promise and perils inherent in digital mobilization, it proposes a framework for understanding the interplay between online discourse, populist rhetoric, and the quest for a more inclusive and democratic political order. |
