Popis As numerous university foundations show, from the 14th century onwards, it became necessary for European rulers to have their “own” Studium. This general trend was prompted by the need for experts to be employed at various levels of the growing governmental apparatus. The presence of a university also brought with it prestige and promised an economic boost. This session will explore the multilayered role of universities within the governmental practices of Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary and Bohemia (1387–1437). Combining various perspectives, individual papers will uncover their uses in different regions of the Luxemburg’s vast empire.
