Popis This case study explores the intersection of chronic pain, religious identity, and queerness through the experience of Oskar, a young man raised in a devout Roman Catholic context. It examines how the normative pressures of Catholicism and Western biomedicine shaped Oskar’s understanding of his body and sexuality. The study highlights the limitations of Cartesian dualism in explaining chronic pain and anxiety, particularly focusing on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and health anxiety. By analysing Oskar’s journey from catholic upbringing to coming out, the case study demonstrates how sociocultural factors influence the perception and expression of pain. The case underscores the need for a more holistic approach to health that considers the interconnectedness of mind, body, and social-cultural context, challenging the reductionist tendencies of both religious and biomedical discourse.
