Popis The main aim of submitted paper is evaluating the position of České Budějovice in Czech transport system and turning over specific characteristics and problems of transport in research region. Current transport location of České Budějovice is of course influenced by historical, economical, social and ecological factors. The comparison of present transport location among the main administrative centres in Czech republic (Table 1) is based on transport infrastructure availability and transport intensity (road transport and public transport). This comparison shows rather peripheral position of České Budějovice in Czech transport system which is markedly influenced by highway and railway corridor absence. Highway D3 from Prague to Linz (A) is just under construction as well as fourth transit railway corridor. After finishing this constructions České Budějovice will get new potential to development. Analyzing the modal split in České Budějovice region (Picture 1) by using the last census from 2001 turn over relative dominance of bus and car transport by commuting to work and to school in research area. Conversely low use of rail transport demonstrates low quality of this transport mode in whole region (Map 1). Rapid grow of road transport intensity during transition period is documented in Table 2. Most of roads in České Budějovice in 2005 record twofold road transport intensity than in 1990. Reciprocal transport relationships by public transport between largest cities in South Bohemian region in 2008 is illustrated in Map 2. There are distinct complementary transport interactions among this cities. The most complex (equivalent bus and rail transport) relationships are between České Budějovice and Tábor and also between České Budějovice and Strakonice. Last analysis shows construction of nodal transport region of České Budějovice based on public transport intensity (Map 3) which is an alternative “transport” view of other types of nodal regions of České Budějovice (administrative regions, commuting to work regions). Nodal transport region is larger than administrative and commuting region which indicates greater sense of České Budějovice among other cities in South Bohemian region.
