Popis BACKGROUND: Physical activity (PA) was defined in a worldwide scientific community as one of the most important factors in dealing with issues of prevention and public health. Regular PA has positive effects on the quality of life and prolonging the period of active old age. Central European countries within the former “communist bloc” exhibit socioeconomic specifics that need to be addressed in the research of physical activity. AIM: The aim of the study was to analyze physical activity of adult population of the South-Moravian area of the Czech Republic (Regions of South Moravia and Zlín) in terms of different socioeconomic status. RESULTS: Males reported significantly higher total PA than females. There are significant differences in the intensity of PA both between males and females and according to socio-economic status. Total of 40.8 % of respondents met the physical activity recommendations. The most commonly performed type of PA was cycling, followed with walking and hiking in women, and with soccer in men. CONCLUSION: Specific conditions of the South-Moravian Region are suitable for cycling or hiking in attractive destinations and it is necessary to take care of them and increase their numbers. Regional authorities of self-government face the task to look for ways to make use of the research results in local practice when finding solutions for any preventive, health or urban interventions.
