Popis In my article I will try to answer Paul de Man's question whether it is possible for autobiography to be written in verse. If the answer remains positive, Sylvia Plath’s poetry can be considered and read as self-portraiture which, in turn, exists only as textual constructions of the subject. My interpretation will try to unfold this viewpoint on subjectivity (as the presence of the authorial "I"). I will focus on the construction of authorial "I" and its position in the self-narrative in Plath´s Collected Poems. To reveal the author’s "I" in the text I will also focus on the question of identity that has intrigued intellectuals for a long time. I will identify the different kinds of "I" in poetry writing and describe how they function and affect the poem. Furthermore, I will focus on identity as a temporary but relatively fixed mode of subjectivity. This focus on identity as lived experience and discernible meaning has become one of the defining issues of modern and postmodern cultures.
