| Popis | The work describes the pragmatic effects of the Catalan evidential expressions evidentment and és evident detected in the parliamentary language of the sessions of the Catalan parliament. The analysis deals with the communicative intentions which motivate the politicians to use these linguistic resources. Besides the purely evidential use we identify image activities that in this type of speech have a direct relation with the verbal (im)politeness. The image activities as well as the (im)politeness represent strategies that help to construct and project the personality of the politician and/or the political party to gain social acceptance, help to argue effectively. Both expressions operate here as intensifiers, they strengthen the speaker’s evaluation and conviction and this way they strengthen the credibility of the assertion. With this contribution we try to acquire a wider knowledge of the interactional factors that contribute to the expression of the evidentiality in a specific type of speech. |
